Is a Husky the Best Family Dog?

You should be thinking about getting the type of dog pictured above for your best family dog choice.

Why isn't a husky the best family dog?

Huskies have been known to be great family dogs, but I would not recommend a husky as your FIRST family dog.

Why?

It would be like owning a semi-truck for your first vehicle. Maybe if you grew up around trucks, and you had your CDL by the time you reached the age of 18. Otherwise it is just TOO MUCH TRUCK for a first vehicle.

Huskies are like that. Too much dog for your first dog.

Even if you get a husky puppy. They grow up to be TOO much dog.

Are there exceptions? Of course. You will always find someone who tells you the story of a great husky they owned growing up. Or the story about the friends neighbor who has a husky and she never leaves the yard and is great with kids.

What these people are not telling you is that their dog is an exception. They don't have the best kind of family dog. They have a great dog!

Maybe they are just really good with dogs. Or maybe the dog and the family fit well together. Many breeds of dogs are sold as the best family dog on these types of stories.

I do not intend on talking you out of getting a dog. Dogs have changed the lives of families and individuals for years. But I am going to try to talk you out of getting a husky as your first family dog.

Just because I love huskies, does not mean I think they are right for everyone. Of course if you already have a husky, this website is just the place to learn everything about your family member!

Check out the breed books. Being an informed dog owner can help make the relationship with your dog successful.
