Dog Exercise, The Best Way To Bond With Your HuskyThe best way to connect with your husky is through dog exercise. Why? To a husky, exercise equates happiness. That means if you provide exercise, your husky can actually pay attention. In reality, we are lucky to get home from work with enough energy (mental or physical) for a 30 minute walk. So if you can provide thinking games and mental stimulation for you husky both while you are home and while you are at work, you can combat the exercise junkie in your dog. Chew toys, bully sticks, and bones are great entertainment while you are at work. Once you get home - if exercising your husky isn't any fun for you it won't be fun for your dog. In order to stay motivated, you have to mix it up! Set Up A Small Obstacle Course Leash your husky and head outside. Now check out your backyard. Do you have anything you could use for a small obstacle course? A couple five of gallon buckets? A few logs intended for the fireplace? Set the logs about 5 feet apart in a straight line. At first just weave in and out of the logs with your husky following you. Is she afraid? Use this as something to work on. Walk around the logs in a pattern like a figure 8. Once in awhile jump over a log. The goal of this dog exercise is to have her follow you NOT accomplish the figure eight or the jumping. The figure eight is just a way to make following you interesting. When you have a pattern to focus on, your husky will have focus. Add obstacles one at a time as your dog starts to follow you without a lot of distraction. Change the pattern often, don't be predictable (i.e. boring). Before you know it, 30 minutes of quality bonding (and exercise) will have passed. Yes, huskies can do agility, but you might need some expert advice so get this... Dog Exercise Training Tip Your dog won't tell you when he's had enough. Especially a husky. They will pull and run themselves even if they are overheated or hurt. So make sure you stop the dog exercise while your dog is still enjoying himself.
