Behavior Tips and Advice for Training your Alaskan Husky as a Pet Dog

Kyra, my first Alaskan Husky, came from a long distance dog musher. I assumed since I already owned a dog, training a second one would be no problem, right?

Wrong.

Kyra didn't know anything about being a house dog.

...and I didn't know anything about alaskan husky behavior!

I remember buying a purple choke collar for Kyra, and asking my neighbor if she would like to go on a dog training walk with me. I figured Kyra would just pull alot, but I hoped Schmedley (my other dog, a beagle/german shepherd) would help ease the dog training process.

Ha!

She pulled alright.

In the shape of a Z. Continuously. All over the place.

My neighbor walked gracefully along with Schmedley while Kyra pulled me left and right in constant jerks.

I tried all the leash training tricks. After all, they worked almost flawlessly with Schmedley.

It just got worse.

She panicked, pulled harder and more erratically. It was like trying to leash train a 45 pound squirrel! Frustrated, we turned around and went home.

After that fateful day, I started learning everything I could about alaskan husky behavior. Gaining knowledge to better understand Kyra.
