It Didn't Work In Canada

by Jessica Paitsel

BSL is not going to save any one or any thing. By banning pit bulls all you're doing is taking good dogs out of good homes. Do you think the bad guys care that law makers are banning them? No. They are still going to have them they and still going to hurt them.

There are 100's of study to show that this law is not working in any way or in any place. In Canada they banned pit bulls and the number of dog bites stayed the same, so how is the LAW doing its job????

About Canada
by: ajsher

Well, I am actually writing from Canada. Legislation is not federal but provincial-so to be absolutely correct, it doesn't work in any of the provinces where BSL legislation has been enacted. Municipalities also enactlocal ordinances. No difference there either.

And you are correct-any dog of any breed can become overly territorial, dominant, fearful or whatever triggers agression. All it takes is a bad owner and a modicum of cruelty.

I beleive deeply in creating heaalthy human-animal bonds through training, play and oddly enough speaking to my dogs. When we walk I talk to them, they respond really well to a calm conversational tone. If I raise my voice an octave and say"Who it is gang?" they identify oncoming dogs as friendlies who they know well.
If they sense anxiety in my voice or body language they will become defensive.

I think all dog owners should be required to talk at least minimally a 6 week course with their new dog. I beleive the new owner will them behave much better with their aanimals, both on and off leash. No, I meant that-the humans need the lessons.
